Should Recreational Marijuana be Legalized?

In today’s generation, whenever someone thinks of a regular marijuana user, they associate them with teenage drop-outs, burn-outs, or someone that will not go notably in life. Marijuana has been used for thousands of years since its discovery by the Scythian’s on 500 B.C. and it is the increasing topic in the world today. Currently, there is an extensive discussion regarding the risk and benefits of recreational marijuana.

More research has done in attempts of trying to justify the benefits, as well as adverse effects that can come from marijuana usage.

Legalization in other countries has broken ground for the industry, but now it is up to the public and political people to be adequately educated and accepting of using it.

Cannabis Indica and Cannabis Sativa are the two main types of cannabis plant used as medicine. There is much original genetics of both types that come from many parts of the world. Within each of those varieties, there are a vast number of individual strains, each with a different cannabinoid profile and therapeutic effect.

In addition, Indica strains produce more chlorophyll than Sativa strains, and they grow and mature faster. Cross breeding Indica with Sativa or a combination thereof produces hybrids. The resulting combination of strains will grow, mature and differ medically in connection to the indica/sativa percentages each phenotype includes.

The benefit of hybridization is that the breeder can attempt to create strains that profiled to the grower and patient needs. In today’s business, hybrid strains control the market, as most strains have crossed at one time or another.

There are six known varieties of Cannabis:

• Pure Sativa
• Hybrid Sativa Dominant
• Pure Indica
• Hybrid Indica Dominant
• Ruderalis

As these varieties have come out in the market, despite the differences of the types, their benefits and risks in the people and society are still the same.

Advantages

• Legal marijuana is monitored for consumer safety.
• Marijuana is addictive, and dependence on the drug will grow with legalization.
• The implementation of the marijuana ban is racist because people of color are disproportionately affected.
• Legalizing marijuana leads to more medical emergencies related to marijuana.
• Crime decreases when marijuana is legalized. Marijuana use injures the brain, and legalization will develop mental health problems.

Disadvantages

• Marijuana is less dangerous than alcohol and tobacco, which are already legal.
• Growing marijuana harms the environment.

In Conclusion, marijuana is an addictive and beneficial drug. Marijuana should not be grouped with cocaine and heroin, but with other recreational varieties such as alcohol and tobacco. The legalization of marijuana will help the economy and can be accepted medically; however, it can also ruin someone’s health and bring damage to their lives.

Moreover, people are still going to use this drug even it is legal or not. It is up to a person to decide whether it is useful or not. Think wisely.
