America’s Health Rankings
Prior to beginning work on this assignment, review America’s Health RankingsLinks to an external site. at United Health Foundation.
Imagine that you work for your state health department. You have been charged with comparing your state’s ranking information with at least two other states based on the United Health Foundation’s America’s Health Rankings in order to determine potential improvements or tout exceptional well-being (depending on the ranking of your state in the various key areas).
Using information from this website, compare your state with two other states in a 4-6 slide PowerPoint presentation. Then, create a Screencast of this presentation and post the link in the drop box.
If you choose to use screen capture, you will create a screencast of your presentation. There are numerous screen capture tools available on the internet including: JingLinks to an external site., or Screencast-o-maticLinks to an external site., etc. Please include a title for your presentation in the description box when you publish your screencast.
Your presentation time is limited to 4 to 5 minutes, so it is highly recommended that you practice reading through your script prior to beginning the screencast capture. Do NOT read your slides. The slides should provide general talking points. The script that you create should provide the narrative for the presentation.
Copy and paste the URL link to your screencast (if using) at the top of your script document and at the bottom of the reference slide in your PowerPoint presentation. If you are not using screen cast, then make sure that your presentation includes the required speaker notes.
Your presentation must utilize at least four scholarly sources cited in APA format as outlined in the Writing Center. All sources used within the presentation must be cited properly within the slides and included on the required reference slide, which will be the last slide of the PowerPoint presentation. Due to the time limit of your presentation, you are not required to speak or read through the reference slide. All sources used within the script must be cited properly with in-text citations where necessary and a separate final reference page. You will submit both your script and your PowerPoint presentation files for grading.
You are encouraged to use the information available on each state, which includes strengths, challenges, highlights, disparities, and various rankings on key health measures. Please note that while charts and graphs are encouraged, you are not to copy/paste existing graphics and charts into your presentation. To include graphs and charts, you must create unique ones to use within your presentation. (Redoing an existing chart is not acceptable)
At least one slide in your presentation should include an assessment of your recommendations on potential improvements that could be implemented within your state to improve the health ranking, or to describe success stories on the potential improved health of your state.
Include America’s Health Rankings in your references either in your final slide or with the link in when you upload your assignment. Additional resources are preferred but not required since you are primarily focusing on the information presented by the United Health Foundation.
